Happy New Year!

A Close Encounter.

Brooklyn [Park Slope], NY

A man came in the store this morning-- he was dressed in work clothes and didn't fit the general look of our typical customer. He walked in and headed straight for the counter. Normally, this would not be something to be concerned about but his eyes were wide open, unblinking, and he was staring straight at me. Something about his expression unsettled me and I wasn't sure what to think. As he approached me, I noticed that he had one hand in his pocket and he was pulling something out of it. Oh God, I thought. What the hell am I supposed to do? It was broad daylight, surely not.. I smiled at him and braced myself.

"Hello ma'am," he said. My smile was frozen on my face and I could barely hear what he said. "... 10% off if you tell us you have the card." I looked down. He was holding a postcard that was covered with large cockroach clipart.

He was an exterminator.

I almost peed myself with relief.

New Collection and site revamp.

I've been wanting to have a site revamp since that conversation with my career counselor and the new collection is a little late. But I've decided that I'm not going to do seasons anymore, just all good things as often as I can get them out. Anyway, here's the newest and it's available in my online shop and at Rare Device. WeeOW!

Meet Karin.

She is for sale in the etsy shop.

Strange Fact.

I fall in love with people who make me laugh. I know what you're thinking: Oh everyone does that. Thing is, I fall so hard. That means a ton of random people-- but mostly on television. Which makes me feel. so. lame. But I can't help it. It doesn't even matter what they look like. Okay, that's a lie.

Today on knittage: new goody up in the etsy shop. It's been practically a month since I've listed something. Less time to knit = Laura, tightly wound.

Okay, realizing I haven't blogged about jewelry making and should probably do that to keep myself accountable. Or at least to log what I've been doing.

- decided not to cast a collection for now, just handsaw. see how well they're received.
- picked out chains and findings for each piece. [sounds easy enough. took 2 hours, what teh hell.]
- sketched out placement of alternative designs w/ gems.
- researched up on what burs are and what they do. different kinds.
- added one more design to the lace collection.

- saw all pieces of flora collection.
- brand brainstorming. seriously now.

- take pieces to be cast or plated.

Cool beans.

I love blogs. I was wigging out because I wish I had 2 extra weeks worth of time to finish a website + jewelry, plus branding what? Took a mini break to catch up on the day's new updates and found myself laughing out loud at cute photos of sleeping corgis. Love them.

Hit up Pearl Paint today for some watercolor paper.. scored a teeny brush for $1. Excited for more painting! But inspiration is low. It's just been a long time since I've done a piece just to do one.

Needing to believe in something again.
